Also known as Phulka or Chapati, Roti (unleavned bread) is the staple diet of India. Served with cooked vegetable and lentils/pulses and/or yogurt (raita) on the side, roti is the main filling ingredient, especially in the North India. Younger generation finds rotis a little boring, and get tempted by western (pizzas, burgers or pastas) or oriental (chowmein, noodles etc.) foods. Busy working couples find roti making quite time consuming or mundane. Non-vegetarians yearn for meat, fish, eggs. However, with the increasing health awareness and preferences for Light & Vegetarian diets, Rotis are being appreciated and adapted in South India as well as other parts of the world. Whole wheat rotis are healthy, filling and nutritious.
